Burger King Marketing Madness
Great ideas typically spread virally. I particularly love the recent marketing for Burger King done by Boulder ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky. They are the guys responsible for bringing back 'the King' old BK icon from several decades ago. Also, they Got Burger King to think out of the box on a few things. Take for instance the following ad campaigns....
1) Subservient Chicken - go to the site and type in most common commands (dance, sit, lay down, etc...)
2) Flame Perfume - Burger King launches a perfume that smells like meat.
3) Facebook Sacrifice App - This recently was banned from Facebook, but really a brilliant idea. BK launched a Facebook application that encourages users to remove Facebook friends. Sacrifice ten of them and you got a free Whopper. 233,906 friends were removed by 82,771 people in less than a week.
4) Fake Wallets - BK planted fake wallets all over major cities. Inside was a license from the King, and a bunch of free coupons.
I'm not sure that all of these would necessarily make you want to go out and get a Whopper, but they definitely get people talking. Maybe that's the point.
